Garages… Bigger, Better, Bolder
Garages… Bigger, Better, Bolder
Ok, we’re just going to go ahead and say it. For most people, designing a garage isn’t the most exciting part of building a new home. However, as garage enthusiasts, we’re taking this as a challenge and we’re going to spend the rest of this blog trying to convince you to be as excited about your new garage as we are.
Cars. Cars. Cars.
These days, most households have more than one car. Whether you live with other adults or are simply a car enthusiast, you’ll need additional space in your garage to avoid having to park your cars on the road or out the front of your house. Having your cars inside will keep them secure while protecting them from the elements. That includes keeping your cars safe from hail and other storm damage, and preventing continuous exposure to extreme temperatures, which can cause paint to fade and peel.
You might not be aware that three car garage and four car garage homes are becoming increasingly popular. Some of our Mr Enthusiast clients have even requested 6 car garages and 8 car garages, to accommodate an impressive collection that might include motorbikes, jet skis or even a boat.
Australia in particular is home to many large cars, including 4WDs and SUVs that need more space than usual. So even if you only have a few cars, having some extra room will avoid any risk of hitting the garage walls with car doors or having to move your vehicles to be able to get in and out of them comfortably.
Thinking about the size of your garage is important when you consider the resale value of your home. This might not be at the forefront of your mind when you’re building your dream home, but it is something that you’ll be grateful to have considered sooner rather than later. As more and more cars hit the road in Australia, buyers are increasingly looking for spacious garages that can accommodate multiple vehicles. Many of our Mr Enthusiast homes are fitted with large garages.
Storage Space for Toys (ahem, we mean tools)
Having sufficient storage space is a priority for most people these days. Having a storage room or shelving where you can neatly store things such as garden and construction tools or cleaning equipment such as brooms and buckets, is invaluable. It’s always better to overestimate the amount of space you need than to find out you’re short on space later. You can also use your garage to store things like bikes, fishing gear, or even an extra fridge or two (according to my grandma, you can never have too many).
Transform the Space
If you opt for a big garage and then find that you don’t need the entire space, consider transforming it into something you will use, like a home gym, salon, craft area or gaming den. These are things that many won’t have room for inside their homes, so your garage might just be the answer you’re looking for. Plus, it allows you to make a little mess without having to worry whether guests will see it.
Have we changed your mind yet?
Here at Mr Enthusiast, we believe that the case for having a larger garage is a compelling one. Large garages offer many advantages that extend well beyond vehicle storage. If you’d like to learn more about your options when building your garage, book a chat with us via our website.
